Olly Riley is one of the most exciting young fast bowlers coming through Irish cricket.
As the current Ireland Under-19 captain, he recently led his country on the world stage at the Under-19 World Cup, combining the demands of leadership with the responsibility of opening the bowling in high-pressure situations.
Coming through the Irish pathway, Olly is part of a generation of young players helping to push Irish cricket forward as the game continues to grow following Ireland’s rise as a full international nation. As a fast bowler and captain, he represents both the present and future of that development.
In this interview, Olly speaks about his journey through the Irish system, what it means to captain his country, the step up to international Under-19 cricket, and his ambitions for the future. He also discusses balancing his cricket with studying at Durham University and being part of Durham’s UCCE cricket programme. It is an insightful conversation with one of Ireland’s most promising young cricketers.
